What is the TUNDI Practicum?
The TUNDI Practicum is our innovative, participant-led, training program, which aims to support artists with dramatic voices in self-exploration and self-realization, and begin to give them the tools to grow into the truth of their artistry.
It is based on three fundamental elements:
- Collaboration -
- Exploration -
- Self-Realization -
Working together with Hugh Keelan, Jenna Rae and other TUNDI artists and consultants, you will begin to explore the possibilities already within you to develop your artistry from a place of ease and unconstrained self-confidence.
Practicum structure
The TUNDI Practicum is designed by the participants.
The Practicum will run concurrently with the Wagner in Vermont Festival. As a general outline:
Practicum participants will attend and participate in festival rehearsals, and complete assignments designed to encourage self-discovery.
Practicum participants will perform in the Wagner in Vermont festival, and meet one-to-one and as a group for various discussions, and performance explorations.
Once we have accepted this year’s participants, we will determine together how we would like to organize the time, via group Zoom discussions that will be scheduled in the New Year.
Coaching
As well as group and one-to-one discussions, the participants take part in daily performance ‘coaching’ which, for this program, dispenses with the traditional concept and structure of master-student delivery. Instead, participants choose how they want to work and who they want to work with. Examples that participants have chosen in the past include:
working through arias or roles with Hugh, whilst other participants and course leaders observe and respond
Asking for specific diction or musical coachings from the team
Asking for specific advice on vocal technique
Closing the room to everyone but their chosen team or colleagues to process through difficult emotions in an aria or role
Processing the difficult emotions out loud to everyone whilst still working through the music
Asking the team to step up on stage and dramatize with them
Working through a scene dramatically without the time constraints of the orchestration
Singing through repertoire for exploration and specifically requesting no feedback from anyone.
The format of these sessions is truly open to your own interpretation!
The experience
The starting point is this; you are already a mature, well-formed artist. Our suspicion is that you have landed on this page because there is something stopping you from realizing that. We are offering you the opportunity to dig deep and usefully examine those stops, and begin a process of self-realization.
You will create and experience a new, harmonious, and endlessly inventive relationship - perhaps a union - between vocal production and expression, character work and stagecraft, and the miraculous phenomenon that is YOU.
We offer to you
Validation for your rich, lush, powerful dramatic voice
Validation for your distinction and necessity as an artist
The beauty of a small town in Southern Vermont
The experience of singing and working in the beautiful Latchis Theatre
Daily group sessions for self-exploration, support, and collaborative exploration
Performance opportunities, with the possibility of video and audio recordings
Potential opportunity to perform or cover a role in the 2024 Wagner in Vermont festival (subject to role suitability)
The tuition for the 2025 Practicum is fully funded by scholarships.
